The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Agroecosystems Management Research Unit at the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment located on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, is seeking a Supervisory Ecologist/Soil Scientist/Microbiologist (Research Leader). The Research Unit objectives are to use a systems approach and ecosystems data to evaluate effects of existing and new agricultural practices on water quality, develop sustainable farming systems, and develop efficient and sustainable livestock production systems across regions. The incumbent’s personal and team research investigates aspects of soil/sediment, nutrients, microbial ecology, and/or emerging contaminants affecting water quality at terrestrial and aquatic environments at the field and watershed scales; and how conservation practices can benefit relationships between nutrient use efficiency, water quality, soil erosion, and crop production.  As Research Leader, the incumbent is responsible for the following: maintaining and enhancing the creativity and productivity of the unit; managing the human, fiscal, and physical resources assigned to the unit; providing technical information and consultation, both internal and external to ARS; and ensuring the proper interpretation and reporting of scientific research results and information.
