Description of Responsibilities:

The Department of Atmospheric and Geological Sciences at SUNY Oswego is searching for a field-oriented geologist with broad geological expertise in either hardrock (mineralogy/petrology) or softrock (stratigraphy/sedimentation) or surficial (hydrogeology/geomorphology) geology, with the ability to teach and advise diverse students with interest in geosciences and geoscience education in the field and laboratory settings. 

The position includes the following, depending on general discipline: 

1. Teaching mineralogy plus optical mineralogy, physical geology plus lab, elective course in economic mineralogy with ore petrology lab, and participate in the geology field program, or
2. Teaching sedimentation and stratigraphy plus lab/field, historical geology plus lab/field, elective course in basin analysis plus lab/field, and participate in the geology field program, or
3. Teaching hydrogeology plus lab, geomorphology plus lab/field, environmental sustainability, an elective course in applied environmental geology, and participate in the geology field program.

The position includes the integration of geology students into an active research program in discipline, and advising research that will lead to the completion of senior theses. The position also includes the careful academic advising of geoscience majors. 

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Geology in the specific discipline by the time of appointment, ability to instruct the discipline specific courses listed above, ability to conduct research and integrate undergraduates into the research program, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching and research experience in basin analysis, or economic mineralogy, or applied environmental geosciences. Geology industry experience and/or experience in general Appalachian Geology or New York State geology is a plus.
