The Department of Environmental Science and Studies at Washington College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Environmental Science starting in August 2023. A successful candidate must show promise in both undergraduate teaching and environmental science research. Tenure expectations include teaching excellence, a pattern of productive scholarship leading to peer-reviewed publication, and effective participation in the shared governance of the College.
Founded in 1782, Washington College is a selective liberal arts institution located in Chestertown, Maryland on a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. The Environmental Science and Studies Department leads a vibrant and growing multidisciplinary program with over one hundred majors, six faculty members and numerous curricular and co-curricular experiential learning opportunities for students. A typical course load consists of two lectures and two labs each semester during the academic year. Faculty have access to the college’s 4700-acre River and Field Campus and research vessels for teaching and research.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline with expertise in environmental physical sciences. Appropriate fields include but are not limited to geology, atmospheric science, oceanography, climate science, and hydrology. Expertise in geospatial analysis is also desired. Candidates with a research application or interest in environmental justice are encouraged to apply.
