FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at The City College of New York (City College) invites applications for a tenure-track position focused on climate change. We will consider applicants whose research is focused on the impacts of climate change on different hazards, or regions or sectors of society (e.g., urban centers, coastal regions, health factors). Ideally the candidate will also have an interest in identifying sustainable solutions to the impacts of climate change. We envision that the applicant will have ample experience in working with climate model data, and a background in statistics. This position is part of a City College cluster hire, spanning multiple Divisions of the College and focused on environmental, cultural, and social justice, in New York City and the Harlem community.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program that expands the scope of our departmental expertise while complementing and integrating with our existing strengths. The candidate should be capable of developing new courses and teaching existing offerings focused on climate science and climate change. The EAS department seeks candidates who appreciate and support the College’s focus on social mobility and are advocates for diversity in the sciences. CCNY values diversity in its faculty, staff, and students; we particularly encourage applications from candidates including women and members of minority groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in atmospheric, climate, or environmental science, statistics, or a related field. Also required are the ability to teach to a diverse range of learning styles and levels – from undergraduates to PhD students, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

VACCINE REQUIREMENT:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment
