Appointment: The University of Delaware (UD) Department of Plant and Soil Sciences is pleased to invite applicants for an Assistant Professor of Agroecology and Sustainable Cropping Systems position. This is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track position with 60% research and 40% teaching appointment.

Position Description: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded, internationally recognized research program that pairs plant and soil science or agronomy with ecology and/or climate science. The incumbent would contribute to the generation and transfer of knowledge through systems-based research and departmental teaching. Examples of research focus include, but are not limited to: 1) improving the sustainability of agroecological or cropping systems through climate change mitigation/adaptation or enhancement of soil health/soil carbon sequestration; 2) forecasting changes in agroecological and cropping system dynamics under various management or climate scenarios; or 3) investigating interactions between agriculture and ecosystems across scales. Experience with large spatio-temporal datasets and cross-disciplinary research is preferred and could include backgrounds in either precision/predictive agriculture or agroecosystem management.

We seek individuals that incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into their research, teaching, and mentoring at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in Crop Science/Agroecology within our major programs and develop new courses based on their area of expertise.

General Information: The University of Delaware is a Land, Sea, and Space Grant, and Carnegie Research University with externally sponsored activities exceeding $200 million and an enrollment of approximately 21,000 students.The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences has 31 full-time faculty and is one of four departments in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The University maintains two large research farms in Newark and Georgetown, DE to support agroecological and cropping systems research.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in soil science, agronomy, ecology or closely related discipline with a thorough understanding of agroecological and cropping systems. A strong commitment to a team-oriented approach to research and an ability to engage diverse student groups (especially underrepresented students in STEM) through teaching are also essential.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and training.
