The Alaska Earthquake Center is hiring a Field Operations Manager. We seek an individual with the talent to manage a well-coordinated team of a half-dozen professional staff. The team’s diverse skills include instrumentation, engineering, remote field operations, networking, and new technologies. Together, the team is responsible for the health and improvement of the 250 field monitoring stations the center operates. This network of stations spans every corner of Alaska and streams several types of monitoring data in real-time. This data underpins the mission of the Earthquake Center and supports the missions of many other state and federal organizations. A background in engineering, logistics, or geoscience is ideal, but not required.  We especially seek applicants with diverse (broadly defined) backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in STEM fields. If you have a passion for leadership and supporting peers, we encourage you to apply!

The Alaska Earthquake Center is a cooperative environment where projects and operations are executed by well-empowered collaborative teams. The duties of the Field Operations Manager include mentoring and supervising other staff, planning and executing safe field logistics, and coordinating efforts to track the performance of remote monitoring stations. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to track and forecast budgets. During the summer field season (May-October), this position provides support and oversight for multiple field campaigns operating across Alaska in remote conditions. This position offers extensive opportunities to travel to all regions of Alaska. The scope of this travel, however, is largely self-determined.

The Earthquake Center is a mission-driven organization set within the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The university offers an attractive work environment and strong benefits including retirement and health insurance, generous leave policies, and tuition waivers for UAF courses. The Earthquake Center’s values emphasize employee flexibility, the open sharing of different perspectives, a respectful inclusive environment, and a commitment to serving Alaska and Alaskans with strong applied science. Career growth and professional development are expected and encouraged.
