The Geomicrobiology Lab at McGill University that is led by Dr. Nagissa Mahmoudi is seeking a PhD student to work on a highly interdisciplinary project that will integrate microbial, biomarker isotopic and ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry data to investigate the release of greenhouse gases and metals in thawing permafrost. This project is funded by the GEM-GeoNorth Program of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and is part of a collaboration between the Mahmoudi Lab and the Geological Survey of Canada’s Delta-Lab (GSC-Quebec, Quebec City), headed by Dr. Jason Ahad.

Students interested in applying should have a BSc or MSc degree in chemistry, biology, geochemistry, biogeochemistry or other relevant degrees. Previous experience in organic geochemistry and/or isotopic biogeochemistry would be valuable assets for this project. This position is open to domestic and international candidates.

The anticipated start date is negotiable; however serious candidates should express their interest as soon as possible. Applicants are asked to submit current transcripts, CV and the names and contact information of at least two references.
