Visiting Assistant Professor (3-year), Earth and Oceanographic Science, Bowdoin College

The Bowdoin College Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science invites applications for a visiting assistant professor to begin July 1, 2023; this position is intended as a 3-year position, contingent upon successful review after an initial one-year appointment. Ph.D. required by the time of appointment. The selected applicant will normally teach four courses per year and supervise independent student work that can include year-long research projects and honors theses. Teaching responsibilities will emphasize intermediate to advanced courses in solid earth disciplines and may include introductory courses. Two courses will have weekly laboratory sections in addition to the class sessions; two courses will not have weekly laboratories. Expertise might include mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, geophysics, economic geology, or volcanology. The College’s location along the rocky Maine coast provides excellent local outcrops for teaching and research. Department facilities include mineral and rock collections, rock saws, petrographic microscopes, and SEM with CL/EDS/EBSD capabilities.
