We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position to study mountain geomorphology and geohazards. This is an open position with primary background and interest in utilizing remote sensing data such as commercial smallsat (e.g., Maxar, ICEYE, etc), radar (e.g., Sentinel-1, ISRO-ASAR, etc.) and ICESat in conjunction with machine/deep learning. Such a background can be applied to one of these aspects of mountain geomorphology: glacier surface processes, glacier lake outburst flood, landslide, landslide-blocked rivers, mountain hydrology, debris flow, mountain landscape evolution, and/or cascading hazard process chain. A successful candidate will have an emerging record of scholarly excellence and will be expected to work independently in ongoing projects in one of the above-listed areas. Candidates using optical remote sensing (e.g., Landsat, Sentinel-2), UAV, numerical modeling, or other techniques are also encouraged to apply. This position provides an opportunity to grow your skillset and also allows you to bring new skills and unique methods to study the impact of climate change on mountain geomorphology. It is important for scientists to use their expertise for societal benefits. Thus, the candidate is also expected to be in touch with ongoing efforts in using geospatial techniques for societal benefits and human rights issues.

• Ph.D. in Earth or Environmental sciences/Engineering (e.g., geology, geography, geosciences, glaciology, civil engineering, computer science). ABD at the time of application is accepted, but Ph.D. is required by the start date.
• Candidate must have experience using GIS and remote sensing software and data products in analyzing mountain geomorphology.
• Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
• Ability to use at least some combination of these software/modeling tools (e.g., Google Earth Engine, HEC-RAS, RAMMS, GeoClaw, COSI-Corr, SfM) and Python/Matlab/R programming for data analysis.
• Experience in using/analyzing climate data.
• Ability to think creatively and work independently and in a team.
• Articulated interest in and flexibility necessary to respond quickly to time-sensitive research requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Record of publication as lead author in a high-impact top-tier journal.
• Experience in writing or contributing to successful research proposals.
• Fieldwork experience in high-altitude mountainous regions.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
