The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Geodesy and Surveying.

 

LSU is designated as the Flagship University in the state of Louisiana, has a total enrollment of more than 37,000 students, and is the only public university in the state to be designated a Carnegie Research I University. The LSU College of Engineering has experienced significant enrollment increases in recent years and has completed a $110 million facilities renovation in the Summer of 2017. LSU is located in Baton Rouge, which has a metropolitan-area population of more than 800,000. The university's location, within one of the world's largest petrochemical corridors and in close proximity to the Mississippi River and its dynamic delta, provides significant opportunities for infrastructural, coastal and environmental engineering research. Current specialization areas and strengths of the Civil and Environmental Department include structures/infrastructures, coastal engineering, geotechnical engineering/geoinformatics, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, and water resources engineering. Responsibilities: Include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; developing and sustaining an independent, extramurally sponsored, research program; and provide service to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the College of Engineering, and LSU.

Required Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (by the time of appointment) in Civil Engineering, Geodesy or closely related field and have demonstrated a strong interest in research and scholarship. In addition, applicants should possess the personal and professional qualities to achieve excellence in teaching and advising at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

Additional Qualifications Desired: Preference will be given to candidates who have developed or have the potential to develop a sustainable research program focusing on one or more of the following areas: geodetic detection, analysis, and interpretation of coastal subsidence processes using GNSS technologies, absolute and relative gravity, deflection of the vertical, error analysis of measurements, surveying instruments, and measurement techniques. Experience in teaching elementary/geodetic and advanced surveying courses will be an added advantage. Applicants should have the necessary qualifications for professional registration and are expected to become registered professional engineer or land surveyor within the pre-tenure period of their appointment.
