Dr. Walter McDonald in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at Marquette University is seeking a Masters or PhD student for graduate research assistantship position funded through the NSF Water Equipment and Policy Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC). The goal of the project is to use distributed temperature sensing in sewer pipes to estimate flow rates. This project provides a unique opportunity for the student to collaborate directly with stormwater regulators, water districts, and engineering professionals to develop advanced monitoring approaches for sewer systems.  Preference will be given to candidates with data analytics, programming, and/or urban stormwater management backgrounds.

We seek highly motivated individuals who can work across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. In addition to the desired project-specific qualifications, the successful candidates will have a Bachelors or Masters degree in civil and environmental engineering or another related field, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

The positions have an anticipated start date of Summer or Fall 2023. Interested candidates should send a statement of interest and a resume to Dr. Walter McDonald (walter.mcdonald@marquette.edu) and complete a graduate school application at http://www.marquette.edu/grad/future-apply.php/.
