Summer 2023 Environmental Science Intern - March 10 deadline!
Organization: Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory - Biogeochemical Sciences Branch (CRREL-BSB)
Location: Hanover, NH (travel stipend to and from appointee’s home location can be negotiated)
Pay: $18.06-$29.09/hour (based on experience, paid as monthly stipend)
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week)
Duration: Summer 2023 (3 months, dates flexible)
The CRREL-BSB team is looking to hire a summer 2023 intern to assist with a project titled "Stability and bioavailability of non-extractable residues of insensitive munitions compound 2,4-dinitroanisole (DNAN) in soils." The intern will plan and conduct simulated physical, chemical, and biological weathering experiments and related analyses to test the environmental stability of the non-extractable soil residues. They will also evaluate the toxicity of these residues to plants and microbes and assist with other experimental and analytical tasks related to the project, as needed. This position may involve travel to offsite facilities for soil analyses not available at CRREL.
Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED certificate
• 1 year of post-high school education (University or Trade School) or 1 year of industry experience
• Experience using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
• Demonstrated commitment to contributing to an inclusive work environment
• U.S. Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge or passing coursework in a STEM field (environmental science or a related field, including chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental engineering, plant science, or microbiology)
• Some lab coursework or familiarity with laboratory practices

CRREL-BSB is a research institute located in Hanover, New Hampshire, a component of the U.S. Army Engineer Research & Development Center (ERDC) within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). CRREL-BSB specializes in multi-disciplinary biogeochemical sciences and related cold regions research.
