Two Student Contractor Positions with the U.S. Geological Survey Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center, Denver Federal Center, Lakewood, CO.
We are a team of scientists at the United States Geological Survey working on understanding wildfire risk to homes and other valued resources. We seek two well-organized, hard-working students interested in working as part of a team on these topics and willing to perform image interpretation, geospatial data collection and analyses, data management and quality control, and data delivery. Tasks include collecting, manipulating, and analyzing satellite and aerial imagery and other geospatial datasets. These tasks require basic skills in GIS and image interpretation. Experience with Google Earth Engine is also helpful.
You will be hired as ‘student contractor’ at USGS, must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree at a recognized educational institution, or have completed a degree within the past 6 months; and will need to register as a Federal contractor, complete a background check, and provide documentation of student status before the contract is finalized. This opportunity will remain open until candidates are found. Funding is available for one year but may be extended if additional funding becomes available. Pay rate varies between $16.35 to $20.54 per hour depending on educational experience. The work schedule is flexible (20 to 40 hours/week) and work can largely be completed remotely but occasional visits to the Denver Federal Center may be required.
How to Apply: Send a resume by email to Dr. Amanda Carlson, (arcarlson@usgs.gov). Please include “STUDENT CONTRACTOR” in the subject line of your email, as well as the following information: mailing address; telephone number; e-mail address; education experience, including descriptions of your major, relevant classes, GPA, and expected graduation date; and relevant work or volunteer experience.
