Job Details

Frontiers of Science is a one-semester course that integrates modern science into the Core Curriculum of Columbia College in order to introduce exciting scientific ideas and inculcate scientific habits of mind. The program will appoint a number of post-doctoral fellows in the natural sciences for the academic year 2023-2024. We invite applications from qualified candidates who have received or expect to receive the Ph.D. by June 30, 2023 and have demonstrated teaching experience. Columbia Science Fellows hold the rank of Lecturer in Discipline in an appropriate natural science department. The fellowship is renewable for a second and third year based on satisfactory performance.

Fellows teach two seminar sections each semester, attend the weekly course lecture, faculty meeting and pedagogical seminar, participate in curriculum development for the course, which includes course-wide assessments, and carry out research in their field of interest.

In addition to teaching and research, Fellows engage in the intellectual life of the department of affiliation. Science Fellows receive a competitive salary supplemented by an annual research allowance.

Salary range: $61,800-$61,800

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

For more information on the program, please contact Natasha Bascoe at fos@columbia.edu.

Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2023 and will continue until the positions are filled.
