Job Details

The Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy (GBCGE) within the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications from qualified candidates to fill a geothermal Research Scientist position.  NBMG is a public service unit within the College of Sciences at UNR and serves as the state geological survey of Nevada.  This full-time position will support the INGENIOUS project (INnovative Geothermal Exploration through Novel Investigations Of Undiscovered Systems), which is focused on assessing geothermal resources in the Great Basin region of the western U.S. and is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.  Responsibilities will include assisting the project PI with the management of major tasks, including assessment of team contributions, i.e., data analyses, maps, models, written documentation, etc. and contribute to technical aspects, which range from subsurface analysis of well data, developing conceptual models and resource estimates of geothermal resources, fieldwork, and development of innovative, geostatistically-based, geothermal exploration workflows for the region. Quarterly reports and peer-reviewed paper contributions will be on-going activities. Additionally, the Research Scientist will lead and implement an outreach strategy for the project.

The position requires substantial teamwork and interactions with GBCGE personnel and collaborators.  We are therefore seeking candidates with well-developed communication skills, ability to meet project deadlines, and demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams.

The successful applicant will be joining a vibrant, motivated team of students, faculty, and scientists who are dedicated to geothermal science and increasing our understanding of geothermal resource potential in the western USA and beyond.  For further details, visit the website linked here: https://gbcge.org/

Required Qualifications: MSc or PhD in geology, geochemistry, geophysics, hydrogeology, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in exploration and development of geothermal, oil, or gas resources.
