We seek applicants for a tenure track assistant professorship under Stanford’s “Taking the Pulse of the Planet” initiative, which is focused on the technology and data-science components of all areas of scholarship in the Doerr School of Sustainability. The initiative aims to build our capacity to map, measure, and monitor the various components of the Earth system through in situ and/or remote sensing. Sensing approaches can target terrestrial and/or marine systems, from beneath the surface of land or the ocean to the top of the atmosphere, using autonomous vehicles, airborne or satellite platforms. Sensing technologies should enable interrogation of Earth systems from chemical, geophysical, and/or biological perspectives. We seek a scholar with research expertise that supports these aims - through existing technology when appropriate, but with the possibility of developing new technologies as well.

Application packages should be submitted online at this link and include the following documents: (1) a cover letter, (2) a research statement and statement of teaching interests (up to 3 pages total for both), (3) a diversity statement that demonstrates the applicant’s commitment and potential to contribute to Stanford’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion through personal experience or perspective, scholarship, teaching, or service (1 page), (4) a curriculum vitae, and (5) names and contact information for three references.  Review of applications will begin on March 1, 2023.

The Doerr School of Sustainability values diversity, equity, and inclusion, including diversity of gender, race, ethnicity, culture, physical and learning differences, sexual orientation and identity, veteran status, and work and life experiences. Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment.

The expected base pay range for this position is $126,000 - $145,000 per annum.

Stanford University has provided a base pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
