The University of North Alabama Department of Geoscience invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall 2023 with the possibility of a Spring 2024 start date. Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in Sustainability, Earth Science, Geography, Geology, or a closely related field. Applicants should have broad expertise in sustainability, with a specialization in either water resources, energy resources, or waste management. We seek an individual with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Review of applications will begin in April 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Teaching responsibilities are four courses per semester, which may include introductory and upper-level courses, both in-person and online. The successful applicant will be expected to teach 2-4 weeks per year at the Guizhou University-University of North Alabama International College of Engineering and Technology located in Guiyang, China (Chinese language ability is not required as courses are taught in English).  

Minimum qualifications include: Earned doctorate in Sustainability, Earth Science, Geography, Geology, or a closely-related field by the time of appointment is required; broad expertise in sustainability, with a specialization in either water resources, energy resources, or waste management, is required;  ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in sustainability, as well as introductory courses in geology or physical geography is required; and the ability and willingness to teach a minimum of 2-4 weeks in China per year is required.  Additional qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students; a willingness to teach in-person, hybrid, and online modalities; a research agenda that involves students; and the ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside of the department of Geoscience.

Preferred qualifications include the ability to recruit students to the department majors; the ability to teach introductory courses in weather and climate; the ability to utilize various forms of social media to enhance ongoing departmental recruitment efforts; a track record of external research grants that have involved and funded students; and experience with Quality Matters course certification.
