The AI-CHESS Lab at Saint Louis University seeks a postdoctoral researcher interested in sensor design and machine learning methods for monitoring contemporary pollution problems in an urban setting. The position involves developing low-cost sensor systems and sensor fusion algorithms to monitor various pollutants effectively. The successful candidate is expected to prototype IoT networks, signal processing, and edge computing algorithms for efficient measurement and analysis of pollution data. ABD candidates expecting to graduate in the next three months will be considered. The position is initially a one-year appointment renewable up to three years, depending on performance. Depending on their background and interest, the postdoctoral scholar will be hired in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences or the Department of Computer Science. Responsibilities:

  • Developing and deploying low-cost sensor networks

  • Working on experimental setups for different sensor designs

  • Developing algorithms for sensor fusion for representing spatial data Coauthoring technical reports and papers. Presentations at academic conferences

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Earth Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Geography, Computer Science, or related discipline obtained in the last three years.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of (recent GitHub projects) C++, Python, Arduino

  • Demonstrated knowledge of deep learning and working knowledge of frameworks such as Keras, Tensorflow, and PyTorch

  • Experience with and interest in developing IoT systems using Arduino frameworks

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with UAV-based data collection (FAA certification)

  • Experience with GIS technology such as QGIS, Google Earth Engine, or the ArcGIS Suite Experience with agile software development
