The Marine Geology and Geophysics division at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Marine Geophysics. The successful candidate will be involved in an NSF collaborative project aimed at studying the rift dynamics during the formation of the Carolina Trough and Blake Plateau, offshore the southeastern United States (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2112598&HistoricalAwards=false).

The position responsibilities are to investigate the feedbacks between mechanical extension and magmatism during the early Jurassic opening of the western Central Atlantic Ocean using new active-source seismic data that will be collected aboard the R/V M. Langseth this Summer. 

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Geophysics or a related field, and have experience in the analysis and interpretation of long-offset, 2D multichannel seismic data and/or OBS refraction data. Additional background in magnetic and gravity data analysis and/or numerical modeling of magmatic and tectonic processes would also be beneficial.

This is a full-time, 1-year appointment that is eligible for renewal contingent upon performance and funding.  

The search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and will continue until the position is filled.  Preferred start date is September 1, 2023.
