The Department of Geography & Geographic Information Science (GGIS), in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, invites applications for a full-time 9-month (academic year) tenure-track Assistant Professor in Human Geography with research and teaching experience in Climate Justice and/or Environmental Justice to join a transdisciplinary cluster of new professors focused on Climate Impacts, Risk, and Inequality.
Geography & GIS is open to a range of topical interests, including the uneven impacts of the physical effects of climate change such as sea level rise, increased wildfires, or more frequent severe weather; the exacerbation of existing environmental inequalities such as exposure to flooding or heat; or the effects of climate change mitigation, such as the unequal consequences of higher fuel costs or carbon taxes, or how to achieve a just transition away from fossil fuels. Candidates may use qualitative, quantitative, geospatial, or mixed methods in their work.

Applicants must have completed all requirements of a PhD in geography, GIS, or a related field by mid-June 2024 for a preferred start date of August 16, 2024. Evidence of an active research agenda around climate justice and/or environmental justice, teaching effectiveness, and effective interpersonal and communication skills are required.
