We are advertising a Postdoctoral Research Assistant position at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)/ESSC as part of a NOAA/WPO funded project.
The incumbent will work with UAH, NCAR, and NOAA scientists in support of the development of a next-plus-1-generation PBL parameterization scheme for NOAA’s United Forecast System models. The primary task will be using the CM1 model to develop and test the new PBL scheme, assessing the impact of the new PBL scheme on hurricane forecasts from the Hurricane Analysis and Forecast System (HAFS), and analyzing the in-situ observations collected from NOAA's annual Hurricane Field Program. The incumbent is expected to give presentations at conferences and write scientific articles.
The candidate should have earned a PhD in atmospheric sciences or a closely related field, with a strong background in PBL/clouds physics and atmospheric modeling. The position is for one year, with the possibility to renew for a second year. Some requirements in the link (see below) can be relaxed for promising candidates.
