Job Details

The Department of Geoscience at Virginia Tech (https://geos.vt.edu/) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate with research specialization in fluid-rock geochemical reactions, geochemical kinetics, reactive transport modeling or similar related fields. This position will support an interdisciplinary research collaboration with Colorado School of Mines to develop novel simulation strategies for quantifying the carbon storage potential of mafic ore bodies. Candidates with demonstrated experience in reactive transport modeling (e.g., TOUGHREACT, PFLOTRAN, Geochemist’s Workbench, etc.) are particularly encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will join Computational Geofluids Lab, which is a dynamic group of student-scholars that is working at the forefront of the low carbon energy transition. This position is supported by a grant from the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) for one year with an opportunity for a one-year renewal contingent on funding and performance. Research support includes salary, computer, and research &/or conference travel expenses, as well as access to the high-perfornance computing infrastructure within Virginia Tech’s Advanced Research Computing facility (https://arc.vt.edu/). This position reqiures occassional travel for meetings with collaborators and research sponsors. Research Associate opening in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Department of Geosciences is seeking a state-funded Research Associate to support geophysical and hydrological field operations. The candidate will provide installation, maintenance, operation, and technical support of equipment and software relevant to field operations. Day to day duties will be performed at the Department of Geosciences, with occasional deployments (up to several weeks) to remote global and regional locations. Required qualifications include a Masters degree and 2+ years of experience in the operation and maintenance of data acquisition systems for geoscience – for example, GNSS (GPS) equipment, seismological equipment, environmental sensors, and hydrological instrumentation.
