The Department of Earth and Climate Sciences at Tufts University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Surface Processes, beginning September 1, 2024. The successful candidate will: 1) teach three courses per year, including a required major course in Surface Processes and a new upper-level course(s) in the candidate’s field of specialty relative to Earth and Climate Sciences; 2) perform high-quality, externally funded, research in their area of specialty.
Qualifications include: a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences or related fields and demonstrated potential for research supported by external funding. Candidates will be expected to be inspiring undergraduate teachers and to initiate impactful research in the Earth and Climate Sciences taking advantage of undergraduate involvement.

The Earth and Climate Sciences Department (ECS) at Tufts has an undergraduate-only major and minor program and our current faculty comprises 6 tenure-track professors and a full-time lecturer. We are in the process of transitioning to two parallel and linked major tracks in Earth Sciences and Climate Sciences. We strongly encourage our students to perform independent research mentored by ECS faculty. The department prides itself in offering students an array of field and laboratory experiences in both introductory and upper-level courses. Tufts University is in the Boston area and is near a diverse array of coastal, glacial, and other surficial environments conducive to field trips across New England and the northeastern U.S. We also offer extended trips over winter and spring breaks to the western U.S. as well as support for travel for field study as a part of research projects.
