Job Details

The Colby College Department of Geology invites applications for a tenure-track position in Geology at the level of Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2024. We seek qualified candidates whose expertise will complement that of existing faculty. Possible areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, geomorphology and surficial processes, hydrology and water resources, sedimentology and stratigraphy, geophysics, and critical zone processes. Colby requires strong, innovative teaching, and an active research program involving undergraduate collaborators. The successful candidate will design and teach an introductory course and upper-level undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. Ideal candidates will be eager to contribute to our introductory geology curriculum and will offer our majors instruction in remote sensing, data science, modeling, and GIS. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who bring diverse perspectives and backgrounds, and candidates who have a record of success advising and mentoring individuals from groups underrepresented in the geosciences.

Tenure-track faculty at Colby receive competitive startup packages and are eligible for a pre-tenure sabbatical leave. Colby faculty are afforded professional travel and research funding, and can apply for summer research assistant funding on a competitive basis. Complete applications will include a brief cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of teaching philosophy and research interests, three letters of recommendation, and reprints of recent journal articles. Please submit all materials via Interfolio at: http://apply.interfolio.com/131453. Applications received by October 8, 2023 will receive full consideration, but applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. Inquiries may be directed to tldunn@colby.edu.
