Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an HBOI Graduate Research Assistant - Fort Pierce, FL.
The student will conduct research on estuarine and/or coastal water quality, phytoplankton blooms and/or ecosystem dynamics using numerical modelling as a tool. The preferred subject will be harmful algal blooms (HABs) but the student is welcome to select a relevant research subject (e.g., nutrient cycles, phytoplankton blooms, seagrass dynamics, or ocean acidification) that is best suited for her/his interest, background, and skills.
The research will be largely based on existing numerical model(s) for South Florida estuaries and coastal regions developed in this. The student will be responsible for further improvements and testing. The student will then conduct numerical simulations and present the results as a MS thesis and/or for publications.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a degree-seeking FAU graduate student with a minimum of five credit hours (or nine if international) and a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Oceanography, Marine sciences, and/or Environmental Sciences.
Must be accepted by the Marine Science and Oceanography at HBOI or one of the related MS programs.
Must have a strong interest in modeling and studying marine ecosystems
Solid knowledge in physics, biology, and biochemistry.
Significant mathematical and programming (Matlab, Fortran, Python) skills are preferred.

$352.00 per week.
