Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor focusing on Freshwater.

Freshwater resources are increasingly being taxed by the regional impacts of climate, land-use, and population changes. The greater frequency and magnitude of floods and droughts has taken its toll in many regions. Around the world, groundwater storage is declining, pollution is increasing, surface water reservoir storage is low, and major reservoir development has plateaued. Consequently, transboundary and sectoral competition for freshwater has grown. New approaches to quantitative analysis of freshwater systems are key to enhancing sustainability. We invite candidates that have completed or will soon complete their PhD in the area of freshwater (including natural sciences, engineering, and related fields) to apply. The successful candidate will serve as a tenure-track Assistant professor in Stanford’s Doerr School for Sustainability. Candidates must have an exceptional record of scholarly work in one or more aspects of hydrologic science and freshwater resources, be interested in interdisciplinary approaches, demonstrate a dedication to teaching, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Application packages should be submitted online at this link. Review of applications will begin upon receipt and submissions will be accepted until November 15, 2023.

Packages must include:

1. Cover letter

2. Curriculum Vitae

3. Combined research and teaching statement (not to exceed 3 pages)

4. Paper (1-3 papers submitted or published)

5. Name and contact information for three reference letter writers

The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an inclusive academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and outlooks. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion about how their work and experience will further these ideals.  Additional information about Stanford's IDEAL initiative may be found here:  https://ideal.stanford.edu/about-ideal/diversity-statement.

Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Stanford welcomes applications from all who would bring additional dimensions to the University’s research and teaching.

The expected base pay range for this position is $126,000-$145,000. Stanford University has provided a base pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
