The Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking to fill a Geologist GS-1350-14/15 permanent position to serve as a Program Manager for Geosciences in the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences, and Biosciences (CSGB) Division under the Basic Energy Sciences (BES) Program in the Office of Science (SC) located in Germantown, Maryland.

Overview
The Geologist will serve as a Program Manager for Geosciences within BES CSGB in Germantown, MD. BES supports fundamental research to understand, predict, and ultimately control matter and energy at the electronic, atomic, and molecular levels, providing the foundations for new energy technologies and supporting DOE missions in energy, environment, and national security. The CSGB Division supports basic research to provide fundamental knowledge of chemical reactivity and energy conversion that is the foundation for energy-relevant chemical processes and systems.

The Program Manager will provide scientific and programmatic expertise in geosciences and interface with other core research areas within the Division such as catalysis, separation science, heavy element chemistry, and condensed phase and interfacial science. Activities include:

 

  • Provide program management for CSGB Geosciences: this program supports basic experimental, theoretical, and computational research in geochemistry and geophysics that have clear connections to clean energy (including geothermal energy, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage via mineralization) or recovery of critical elements; Review/draft budget documents; Execute proposal peer reviews; Manage scientific communication including scientific review of press releases, scientific updates for the CSGB Geosciences website, and preparation of research highlights; Participate in laboratory research reviews; and Plan, execute, and generate reports for geosciences-relevant workshops and roundtables.
