Assistant Professor of Human Geography in Community Health

The Department of Geography in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full time (9 month) tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in Health Geography with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. Applicants should have research and teaching interests in one of the following areas: socio-spatial determinants of health and health care access; relationships between environment and health outcomes; health disparities; and community well-being. We seek candidates with a diverse methodological toolkit, including qualitative methods, quantitative methods, spatial modeling, and cyber-infrastructure/big data/data science, as appropriate to their scale of inquiry.

Candidates should have an outstanding research program and a record of excellence in teaching, both relative to their career stage. Essential characteristics include publications commensurate with experience; demonstrated capability to secure external funding; and the ability to strengthen the graduate program in geography through course offerings and mentoring students. Candidates should have the potential for creating synergies with existing department strengths, must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment, and a have strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching. This position is one of five tenure-track lines to be filled in the Department of Geography over the next two years as part of a foundational hiring program to recruit more than 100 tenured or tenure-track faculty in the new College of Arts and Sciences.
