The Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory - Alaska Research Office (CRREL-AKRO) team is looking for a research statistician with a focus in environmental sciences to assist with a variety of projects on statistical analyses of Arctic ecosystem processes. Projects will likely include assessing data trends in soil, water, and snow characteristics related to permafrost thaw and comparing time-series datasets of soil moisture with other soil variables across scales. The information spans highly-controlled laboratory-based measurements, field data collections, and satellite imagery, therefore knowledge of statistical tools, GIS, machine-learning, image-processing, and ability to program are desirable skills. This position will involve remote Arctic field work and travel, if the candidate desires.

Start Date: May/June 2024 or earlier

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a science-related field or 3+ years of industry-related experience Knowledge of geo-statistics and regression tools, including but not limited to structural equation modeling, exploratory factor analysis, and linear regression Demonstrated commitment to contributing to an inclusive work environment U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of GIS, programming languages (i.e. Python, R, MATLAB), machine-learning, remote sensing, and image processing Ability to cross difficult terrain (tundra, wetland, etc.) on foot, lift up to 50 pounds, and spend up to 8 hours outdoors in various Alaskan conditions (cold, wet, mosquitos)
