Postdoc in geodetic monitoring of CCUS storage site

The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position at the Pacific Geoscience Centre, located in Victoria, BC, Canada. This position is part of an NRCan-sponsored program to aid Canada's transition to sustainable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project will focus on the analysis of geodetic data (e.g., GNSS, InSAR, and gravity data) and modeling related to subsurface fluid dynamics at carbon storage sites.

The selected postdoctoral scholar will employ analytical, numerical, and statistical modeling techniques to explore subsurface fluid migration and interactions across multiple Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) sites. The scholar is expected to undertake independent research initiatives to address pertinent scientific issues. Depending on the research topic and individual interests, the scholar’s responsibilities may include field investigations, terrestrial geodetic monitoring, geodetic data analysis, and/or modeling.

Furthermore, the postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to interact with the scientific team at the Pacific Geoscience Centre and the GSC, contributing to Canadian national programs concerning natural hazards. High-quality research output is anticipated, with a strong focus on peer-reviewed publications. The postdoc will work closely with graduate students and assist in managing larger research projects. This position is available immediately and may be renewed for up to three years, subject to the satisfactory performance of the selected candidate. Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in geodesy, geophysics, or a closely related discipline, as well as extensive experience with geodetic data processing and inversion. Candidates with proven experience in utilizing surface deformation data to invert subsurface fluid migration are especially encouraged to apply.
