Description

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Vanderbilt University seeks a highly motivated candidate for an instructional faculty position at the rank of Senior Lecturer in climate science. We seek an individual aimed at the highest standards of teaching who would be drawn to interact with a diverse and interdisciplinary group of faculty and students in Earth and Environmental Sciences and other related fields. The position would begin in the fall semester of 2024. This is a non-tenure-track  position with an initial appointment for three years and the potential for continuing reappointment, contingent upon institutional review.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences teaching mission by offering introductory and advanced Climate, Paleoclimate, Atmospheric and/or Ocean Sciences classes. A willingness to teach a breadth of such courses is required with an interest in developing new courses and a willingness to contribute to shaping the department’s teaching curriculum. In fall 2022, the College of Arts and Science launched a new interdisciplinary major in Climate Studies. Therefore, we seek applicants enthusiastic about contributing to this program that interfaces with the humanities and social sciences.

 

Qualifications

A PhD, in hand no later than August 15, 2024, in Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean Sciences, or related field is necessary. A strong foundation in climate science is required. Interest or experience with both modern and/or ancient earth systems through the lens of quantitative methods and physical processes is preferred. Successful candidates will have a strong record of teaching excellence, interest in pedagogy, and experience working with diverse students.
