The Department Head is the administrative and academic leader of the Department of Geosciences within the Warner College of Natural Resources (WCNR) at Colorado State University. The Department Head is primarily responsible for leadership and administration of teaching, research, extension, and service activities of departmental personnel. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment (comprised of a 9-month tenured position with an administrative stipend). 

Geosciences is one of five academic departments in the Warner College of Natural Resources. The other departments are: Forest and Rangeland Stewardship; Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Biology; Ecosystem Science and Sustainability; and Human Dimensions of Natural Resources. The Department has 16 tenure-track and one full-time Master Instructor faculty. Faculty expertise spans Earth surface processes, isotope geochemistry, sedimentology, mineral deposits, solid Earth and applied geophysics, structural geology, tectonics, geodynamics, hydrogeology, paleoclimatology, glaciology and petrology. The Department offers a B.S. undergraduate major in Geology, with concentrations in geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, environmental geology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geosciences. The Department currently has approximately 100 undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students.

Colorado State University is a land grant university with about 33,000 students located in Fort Collins, Colorado (population ~175,000). Fort Collins residents enjoy a high quality of life, a regionally moderate cost of living, and the city is often rated as one of the best places to live in the United States. The city has numerous bike paths, a vibrant downtown, and is adjacent to the Rocky Mountains with easy access to many outdoor activities. Fort Collins is approximately 1-hour north of metropolitan Denver and the Denver International Airport.

The Department of Geosciences is currently undergoing exciting changes including a curricular revision of the undergraduate major and expansion of our analytical capabilities in petrology and geochemistry. We seek a Department Head who is eager and excited to contribute to and facilitate completion of these important and timely efforts.
