Job Description

 

The College of Basic and Applied Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for an innovative leader to chair the Department of Geosciences. Applicants must have an established publication record and external funding record commensurate with an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Expedited tenure upon appointment is possible. The start date for the position is August 1, 2024.

 

The successful candidate will report directly to the Dean of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and will have a distinguished record of teaching and research, as well as administration, service, and leadership at the academic department level. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds. Primary responsibilities include strong departmental leadership and personnel management; stewardship of department resources; assessment and continual improvement of curriculum, pedagogy, and advising; attracting internal and external funding resources; supporting faculty research; recruiting quality students and faculty; mentorship of faculty members; student advising; development of sponsored research; peer-reviewed publications; and public service. The chair will have a reduced teaching load each semester.

Required Education

 

A terminal degree in geology, physical geology, environmental sciences, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
