The Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL) at Utah State University (USU) seeks a Postdoctoral researcher to advance cyberinfrastructure that supports large scale, reproducible hydrologic modeling. The selected applicant will work under the guidance of Dr. David Tarboton as part of a team of faculty, researchers, students and software engineers to advance the functionality of HydroShare and linked computing platforms for collaborative modeling as part of the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) and Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrated Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE). Applicants should have experience in hydrologic modeling and an interest in advancing modeling methodology and the data and information systems supporting hydrologic modeling to improve collaboration around and reproducibility of modeling results. This position requires a commitment to applying FAIR (findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability) Data Principles and addressing the challenges associated with applying these principles in large scale modeling. This is intended as a two-year position, with renewal in the second-year contingent on performance and funding.

Responsibilities:
- Develop hydrologic modeling use cases to address large scale questions related to flood prediction, inundation mapping, and water availability.
- Apply the modeling use cases to improve computational approaches implemented in community collaboration platforms (e.g., HydroShare, JupyterHub) in support of collaborative, reproducible hydrologic modeling.
- Explore approaches for publishing models and results where the datasets are large.
- Advance available cyberinfrastructure for supporting modeling and sharing of model forcing data and results.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in a scientific field that involves Hydrology or Water Resources Modeling.
- Proficiency in research computer programming with competence in at least one research software programming language.
- Experience in the development and use of hydrologic model codes.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong publication record.
- Experience with the sharing and publication of data and models.
- Experience with computational notebooks.
- Experience with cloud storage and computation technologies.
- Some experience with newer and older languages used in hydrologic model development (e.g., Python, R, C/C++, Fortran).
- Experience with reproducible science and modeling workflows.
