As part of a multi-year cross College-level effort to become global leaders in Water and Earth System Predictions and Community Resilience Research with a particular emphasis on Hydrology and Water Security, the School of Meteorology (https://meteorology.ou.edu; SoM) and the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (https://ou.edu/coe/cees; CEES) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) welcome applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position focused on the broad areas of Hydrometeorology and Hydrology from candidates whose experiences and interests have prepared them to be an integral contributor to the advancement of our communities engaged in the following: scientific discovery, education, developing the next generation of thought leaders, and service to society. The search is coordinated by the Gallogly College of Engineering and the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences.

The joint Mission of the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences and the Gallogly College of Engineering is to provide a world-class academic experience that promotes convergent and innovative education and research at the intersections of weather, water, climate, and sustainability. To fulfill this mission, our faculty is dedicated to preparing students for successful careers in the private sector, academia, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations.

Hydrometeorology

One (1) tenure-track position is available in the broad areas of Hydrometeorology and Hydrology. The successful candidate will become an important member of the School of Meteorology and School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science faculty, as well as the vibrant Norman Hydrometeorology community, which includes several university research centers, NOAA partners, and private companies. They will work collaboratively with both schools to increase our understanding of the energy and water cycles from local to global spatial scales and weather to climate temporal scales.

Aligning with the University of Oklahoma's pursuit of excellence in every discipline, the School of Meteorology and the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences has a long and distinguished history of excellence in various sub-fields of Meteorology. Our vision, i.e., to “Develop the School into a just, globally-engaged, student-centered atmospheric science program to advance the Nation’s Weather, Water, and Climate enterprise, by leveraging our strengths in research, education, and community engagement.” is articulated in the recently developed Strategic Plan (SP2030), available http://meteorology.ou.edu/strategic_plan/. In a similar direction, the Gallogly College of Engineering hosting the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science has a bold plan to dramatically improve quality of life and stimulate economic development for our state, region, nation, and world by solving engineering, scientific and technological challenges through leadership in discovery, innovation, education, and engagement. One of the two large initiatives in the College Strategic Plan (available https://www.ou.edu/content/dam/CoE/CEES/cees_assets/documents/cees_GCoE_strategic_plan_2020_24.pdf) is in the strategic area of Water, focusing on “Building an internationally renowned program that addresses complex water challenges – quantity, quality, and management – from local to global scale and requires application of innovative science and technology to provide solutions”.
