Job Details
The Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is the only institution in Quebec dedicated exclusively to research and graduate training. In partnership with the community and industry, INRS is proud to contribute to the development of society through its discoveries, and to help train the next generation of scientists in the fields of science and engineering, social sciences and health.
The INRS Centre Eau Terre Environnement (INRS-ETE) is seeking applications to fill a regular faculty position in the field of hydrogeology. The successful candidate will join a group of researchers covering several hydrogeology specialties, as well as a number of fields related to water, the environment and the geosciences. The Centre boasts an impressive research infrastructure, including state-of-the-art laboratory and field equipment. In hydrogeology, the equipment includes a contaminant hydrogeology laboratory, a geotechnical drilling rig, and a wide range of geophysical instrumentation. The competition is not aimed at a specific hydrogeology specialty. Thus, the expertise and field of research of the person recruited may cover one or more of the fields of hydrogeology, and his or her research work may benefit from one or more of the various research infrastructures available.
Major Responsibilities:
Development of innovative research activities in hydrogeology within the multidisciplinary programs of the ETE Center, related to one or more of the following topics
Groundwater resources (e.g.: inventory and sustainable management of resources, groundwater recharge, water supply)
Contaminant hydrogeology (e.g., contaminated sites, remediation methods, laboratory or field testing, organic, inorganic, or emerging contaminants)
Physical characterization of aquifers (e.g. hydraulic testing, hydrogeophysics, innovative laboratory and field methods)
Hydrogeochemistry (e.g. geochemical processes, groundwater residence times, tracer testing)
Digital simulation of flow systems (e.g., representation of flow and mass, solute, or heat transfer processes at various scales)
Secure funding for its research activities through external grants from public and private organizations.
Participate in training activities, in particular in the context of the Center's graduate programs, and in the supervision of students and research staff.
Contribute to the national and international reputation of INRS.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
Relevant post-doctoral experience or experience in industry or government.
Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with other Centre faculty members from a multidisciplinary perspective.
Ability to supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research staff.
Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to self-finance research.
Excellent potential for original, productive and formative graduate research. Knowledge of Quebec issues and international recognition are considered assets.
Demonstrate scientific leadership and a willingness to make an impact in response to society's major challenges, in line with INRS's mission.
Working language
The working language is French. Knowledge of English is required. Candidates for whom French is not a common language are strongly encouraged to apply. The person recruited will be invited to perfect his/her knowledge of French during his/her first contract of employment (3 years, renewable after evaluation), and the necessary resources will be made available to facilitate learning.
Company
Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is dedicated to university graduate level research and training. It is the highest-ranked academic research institute in Canada in terms of research intensity (funding per faculty member). One hundred and fifty professors and more than 800 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows work at its four research centres in Quebec. INRS research teams are active in both fundamental and applied research and play a key role in developing practical solutions to problems confronting society. Centre Eau Terre Environnement (Water Earth Environment Research Centre) focuses its activities on the sustainable management of water and earth resources and on finding solutions to environmental problems.
