The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of
University Professor
of
Dynamic Meteorology
at the Department of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences at the Faculty of Geo- and Atmospheric Sciences. This level of professorship is comparable to a full professor position in the USA. It is a position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz - UG) and will be based on a civil-law employment contract with the University on the basis of the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract will be concluded for an unlimited period. The level of employment is full-time and the position is fully funded by the University.
Responsibilities include
The person holding the position covers the subject "Dynamic Meteorology" in research and teaching and
- conducts and publishes excellent and innovative research in Atmospheric Dynamics over spatial scales larger than turbulence and boundary layer scales as well as over temporal scales from weather to climate. contributes to the University’s research area “Mountain Regions” by working on the direct and indirect influence of mountains on large-scale atmospheric flows. acquires research grants. guides and supports students and junior researchers at Master's, PhD and postdoctoral level. actively collaborates in research with other working groups of the department and relevant groups within the faculty and beyond. teaches courses in atmospheric dynamics and weather prediction in the Bachelor’s program “Atmospheric Sciences”, the Master’s programs “Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences” and “Environmental Meteorology”, and the PhD program “Atmospheric Sciences”, contributes to introductory courses and supervises Bachelor and Master and PhD theses. is involved in academic self-administration. disseminates research results to society and is open to research impulses from societal needs ("third mission"). makes research transparent and is committed to the concepts of open data, open access and open science. is open to further leadership training.
Employment requirements include
PhD in atmospheric sciences or a related subject; Excellent and innovative research in atmospheric dynamics over spatial scales larger than turbulence and boundary layer scales as well as over temporal scales from weather to climate; Relevant research and teaching qualification (habilitation) or equivalent achievement; Publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals; International research cooperation(s) (e.g. publications with international partners, leading research networks, organization of conferences and workshops); Experience at institutions beyond the one that granted the PhD; Experience in the acquisition and administration of competitive research funding; Excellent didactic skills and demonstrable experience in teaching dynamic meteorology or related fields; Experience in supervising or co-supervising undergraduate and graduate theses; Leadership experience; Excellent English, and German at B2 level or, if not yet available, willingness to learn German at this level within 2 years; Applications must be sent by email to fss-innrain52f@uibk.ac.at with the subject "Application Dynamic Meteorology" no later than
