The Division of Natural and Built Environment at the University of Missouri- Kansas City invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the broad areas of geochemistry and mineralogy. We seek a candidate who can characterize materials for geological, environmental science, and engineering applications utilizing current SEM and XRD instrumentation with expansion to additional instrumentation. Desired areas of expertise include, but are not limited to critical minerals, economic geology, petrology, environmental geology, biogeochemistry, and geotechnical engineering. We are particularly interested in applicants who focus on applied investigations using state-of-the-art laboratory techniques that can include or be synergistic with field research, modeling, and existing research activities at UMKC.
We seek a collaborative colleague who will develop outstanding research programs and impactful scholarship with a commitment to student success. Teaching responsibilities include existing undergraduate and graduate core courses in Earth and Environmental Sciences in addition to developing elective courses within an area of specialization with an emphasis on integrating science and engineering.
This is a 9-month, ranked tenure-track faculty appointment eligible for benefits. The appointment begins with the fall 2025 semester.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in geochemistry or a related field is required by the time of appointment.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate:
- Excellence in research including initiating or continuing an independent extramurally funded research program or serving as a principal investigator in larger collaborative teams, A strong commitment to teaching in the classroom, Effective mentoring of students in the laboratory and field, and willingness to provide support toward published research and presentations (undergraduate and graduate students), Propensity to engage in divisional, school, or university services appropriate to the position, and advance the strategic plan of SSE and UMKC.
