The USDA, ARS, Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research Unit (CSWQRU) in Columbia, Missouri, is seeking a Research Agricultural Engineer, Research Soil Scientist, or Hydrologist to conduct irrigation research at the Portageville, Missouri work site. The scientist hired for this position will develop and evaluate innovative irrigation management solutions to improve the productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability of Mid-South cropping systems.
Specific research goals of this position are to (1) develop knowledge that contributes to optimizing field crop irrigation under current and future climate, and (2) investigate how emerging digital agriculture technologies can improve irrigation management by incorporating knowledge of spatial and temporal variability. The successful candidate will interact with scientists at local, regional, national, and international levels who are employed by state and federal agencies, universities, and industry. They will plan and conduct field research, analyze and interpret research data, and present and publish results.
