The Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY seeks to fill a tenure-eligible faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with expertise in Geomorphology/Earth Surface Processes. This is a 9-month position in the regular title series with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. We seek a highly motivated geomorphologist with expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas: fluvial systems, geochronology (especially optically stimulated luminescence and/or cosmogenic isotopes), landscape evolution, natural hazards, quantitative methods of change detection (via remote sensing, LiDAR/drone sensors, etc.), and/or neotectonic processes.
As part of a holistic team of Kentucky-based researchers, the successful candidate is expected to develop research associated with an NSF-EPSCoR funded project that focuses on evaluating the geological and hydroclimatic conditions influencing flood and landslide hazards in eastern Kentucky, with an aim towards building climate resilience in Appalachian communities. Additionally, the faculty scholar will be expected to develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research and student training program. Ideally, this will include crossdisciplinary collaborations with department faculty and others across UK, including cognate academic departments (e.g., Civil Engineering) and research centers (e.g., Kentucky Geological Survey, Center for Applied Energy Research, Center for the Environment, etc.).
A Ph.D. in earth science (or other related discipline) and relevant post-doctoral research experience are required.
