We are seeking a MS student in Environmental Science at the Department of Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), beginning January 2025. The successful candidate will conduct research at the Geological and Environmental Remote Sensing Laboratory (GERSLab) at UTC. The research will focus on developing models to estimate water quality in the Tennessee River using remote sensing technology.
Basic qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or a related field.
- Experience in GIS/Remote Sensing technology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in coding (e.g., Python, R) and data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in using water quality measuring equipment and water quality data collection in rivers.
- Proficiency in spatial analysis using ArcGIS Pro and Python.
- Proficiency in digital image processing using ArcGIS Pro/Erdas Imagine and Google Earth Engine.
- Experience in working with imagery acquired by Landsat satellites.
- Prior research experience in the relevant fields.
Funding and Benefits:
The position is fully funded with a competitive stipend (graduate research assistantship), benefits, and tuition.
