Position Description

The Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering (EEE) at Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for a Lecturer in Discipline or Senior Lecturer in Discipline position beginning January 1, 2025. Lecturers in Discipline are full-time, non-tenure-track faculty members responsible for teaching. EEE is committed to hiring outstanding educators to support the growing needs of its rapidly expanding BS and MS degree programs. The incumbent will contribute to the Department's academic mission, with particular emphasis on the MS program, including teaching, admissions, recruiting, and advising. The typical teaching load for lecturers is six courses per year. EEE may partially reduce this requirement if the candidate is suited to managing the MS program (from recruitment through advising). Teaching is the primary focus of this instructional appointment. Experience in teaching courses on foundational aspects of environmental engineering, industrial ecology, and carbon management will be preferred.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD or its professional equivalent by the starting date of the appointment. Candidates at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline are expected to have teaching experience, documented evidence of pedagogical excellence, and evidence of professional growth and activity in the given field. Candidates at the rank of Senior Lecturer in Discipline are expected to have substantial experience and accomplishments, a superlative record of teaching as a lecturer, and documented evidence of pedagogical excellence in carrying out administrative or other department responsibilities.
