The Kimbell School of Geosciences invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin spring, 2025. Midwestern State University is a comprehensive public university serving roughly 6000 students located on the rolling plains of Texas. The Kimbell School of Geosciences is a dynamic program with strong ties to the region’s petroleum exploration, water resource, and environmental service communities. We seek candidates that will complement our current expertise in remote sensing and computational geoscience, paleontology and sedimentology, and igneous petrology. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to shallow-subsurface characterization, environmental assessment, or forensic/archeologic investigations, through the techniques of potential fields, electromagnetic methods, ground penetrating radar, or shallow seismology. Demonstrated success with ERT and/or GPR is preferred, but not required. We welcome applications from those familiar also with additional techniques applied to exploration and/or deep-earth geophysics. Expertise regarding hydrogeology and/or structural geology is desirable.
The successful candidate will teach introductory geosciences courses, geophysics and other appropriate upper-level and graduate courses of their design. They will oversee undergraduate and master’s research, pursue external support, and engage in service to the university and community. Experience in developing a successful undergraduate and graduate research programs will be given special consideration.
Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in geosciences, strong interpersonal skills, evidence of a potential for success in teaching, and publications in refereed journals commensurate with experience. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated success in teaching, mentoring, and broader engagement. ABD is acceptable at time of selection but completion date must be no later than January 15, 2025.
