The Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences (DEEPS) at Northwestern University invites applications for a continuing Assistant Professor of Instruction position. The appointee will teach six courses annually, spread over three quarters, including introductory and advanced-level courses, and contribute to building curriculum within the EEPS program. We seek a scientist with core strength in geographical information systems (GIS). In addition to teaching GIS courses, the successful candidate will teach other courses in their field of expertise. Areas of particular interest include: ecology, hydrology, geomorphology, climate, urban systems, ecosystem health, or geohazards.
This is a benefits-eligible, full-time, teaching track, continuing appointment starting September 1, 2025. A Ph.D. degree is required by the start of the appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in working with diverse student communities and a record of effective teaching. Compensation
The expected base pay range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000. This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
