Job Details

The Desert Research Institute's (DRI's) Division of Hydrologic Sciences, is seeking an innovative scientist with expertise in the area of numerical modeling. The successful candidate will immediately contribute their expertise to models of heat and mass transfer in the near-surface vadose zone and in groundwater systems. The successful candidate must have a broad background in hydrogeology that must include numerical modeling of groundwater systems and may also include groundwater/surface water interaction, conceptual model development, field sampling, aquifer test design and/or environmental chemistry. Additionally, the successful candidate will need to communicate numerical modeling results to government agencies, non-profit organizations and stakeholders at public venues. Candidates with past experience leading field and modeling based hydrologic studies are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a growing range of programs at DRI focused on understanding hydrologic systems and human impacts on those systems in the western US.  This position is located in Reno, NV.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institutions with a focus on hydrology, hydrogeology, or environmental resource engineering, with a strong interdisciplinary background;
  • Experience with groundwater modeling software (e.g., MODFLOW, GSFLOW, PRMS);
  • Experience in scripting and data analysis using Python;
  • Experience with GIS software;
  • Field-based and/or other applied experience in groundwater investigations;
  • Ability to work independently to fulfill project goals and meet project deadlines;
  • Effective verbal and written skills;
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate project results to a variety of stakeholders.
