Job Details
We invite applications from motivated students interested in pursuing a M.S or Ph.D study in estuarine and coastal oceanography in either numerical modeling or observations. Applicants should have a Masters or Bachelor’s degree in oceanography, atmosphere, civil engineering, applied mathematics or physics. The prospective students must be admitted to the University of Maryland Marine-Estuarine-Environmental Sciences (MEES) graduate program (www.mees.umd.edu) and will conduct research/study at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore under the direction of Dr. Meng Xia. Positions include:
(1) Estuarine hydrodynamics modeling. The student will use numerical models to investigate the estuarine dynamics, such as particle transport in coastal plain estuaries.
(2) Estuarine observations. The student will use ADCP, CTD to investigate the lagoon dynamics.
The M.S or PhD positions are expected to start in Fall of 2025 and include stipend, tuition, medical insurance and travel to domestic and international conferences. If you are interested in the positions, please send a brief description of your research interests and current CV to Dr. Meng Xia (mxia@umes.edu). Company
Welcome to the Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore! Our programs are the centerpiece of the university’s science and technology focus areas.
Our undergraduate Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Biology degree programs provide the foundations for future professional and academic careers. We offer Premedical and Pre-allied Health tracks for students interested in going on to serve their communities as doctors, physician assistants and physical therapists. We have a cooperative program with the School of Pharmacy that provides an accelerated path to careers in the pharmaceutical sciences. Our General Biology and Chemistry tracks support those interested in broader careers in the sciences. Being on the Eastern Shore provides us access to outstanding resources to study oceans, bays and estuaries.
We also have graduate programs in the specialty areas of Marine, Estuarine and Environmental Sciences, as well as Toxicology. These fields are critical for investigating the impacts of humans on ecosystems and the effects of climate change on coastal areas.
Our goal is to provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to pursue your career aspirations. Join us on your voyage of discovery and let us help you prepare for your future.
