Graduate Research Assistantships Aerosol/Water Vapor Interactions

We are seeking one or more motivated graduate students to join our atmospheric science research group in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at the University of New Mexico. The selected candidates will work on a Department of Energy-funded project investigating aerosol-cloud interactions using water vapor isotopologue measurements from the EPCAPE field campaign in San Diego, California.  The position can begin as soon as the Summer of 2025.

Project Description The research focuses on analyzing water vapor isotopologue data to understand aerosol-cloud interactions over the coastal Pacific Ocean. The project involves working with field measurements from multiple sites, including unique meteorological events such as Hurricane Hilary (2023). The student will have opportunities to work with advanced instrumentation data and atmospheric modeling to investigate the links between aerosols and water vapor in a subtropical stratocumulus setting.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Science, Physics, Geoscience, or related field; Strong quantitative and analytical skills; Programming experience (Python preferred); Interest in atmospheric processes and climate science

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with atmospheric data analysis; Background in isotope geochemistry; Familiarity with numerical modeling; Strong written and verbal communication skills

Position Details: Annual stipend: $24,500; Tuition remission; Health insurance benefits.
