Tenure-Track Position in Climate Science
The Department of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track position in climate science. The Department is committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community and strongly encourages applications from women and other underrepresented groups in earth and environmental sciences. We seek an innovative scientist who studies climate using novel experimental, observational, big data or other approaches. Research areas include but are not limited to climate modeling, atmospheric science, oceanography, paleoclimatology, global ecology, and climate impacts on Earth/environmental system functions. The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2025.
Penn’s Department of Earth and Environmental Science is a collaborative and interactive department. We seek to create knowledge that advances our understanding of the physics, biology and chemistry of Earth and how it works. Our department is housed within the School of Arts & Sciences, which is comprised of 28 academic departments, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate Division, and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. We promote and encourage curiosity, intellectual engagement, and discovery among all our students and faculty. University, School, and departmental resources that support our efforts and student and faculty life include: the Offices of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Vice Provost for Research, PennGlobal, Wellness at Penn, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Penn Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, and Penn Human Resources. Additionally, this position may benefit from connections with the Penn Center for Science, Sustainability and the Media, The Water Center at Penn, the Environmental Innovation Initiative, the Vagelos Center for Energy Research and Technology, the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy, and the Center for Excellence in Environmental Toxicology.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated excellence and productivity in research and the potential to excel in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship. Review of applicants will begin on November 20, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.
