The Department of Geology at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for a senior tenure-track position (Associate to Full Professor) with a research focus on Critical Minerals (CM). CM are defined as any minerals, elements, or substances designated by a government as essential to energy technology and at risk of supply chain disruption. This position is part of UGA’s Georgia First Program, which aims to promote sustainable growth in CM, energy generation and storage, environmental stewardship, and geohealth.

We encourage applicants with expertise in CM resources, particularly those who use field-based studies, laboratory-based geochemistry (e.g., thermodynamics, kinetics, isotopes), or mineral economics and extraction. Applicants with a proven track record of collaboration with government or industry partners are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates whose expertise complements the department’s strengths in geophysics, hydrology, sedimentary geology, geobiology, contaminant transport, geohazards, planetary geology, and structural geology are particularly sought to join this vibrant program.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the geosciences or a related field and demonstrate successful grantsmanship, a record of publishing in high-profile outlets, and the ability to mentor graduate students. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach in the core undergraduate geology curriculum and at the graduate level in their area of expertise. Applicants must have academic credentials commensurate with the promotion and tenure guidelines at the University of Georgia. These guidelines can be found at https://provost.uga.edu/faculty-affairs/promotion-tenure/.

Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2025, and will continue until filled. For more information about the job posting and to apply, please visit: https://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/404483
