The Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education at the University of Southern Indiana invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geology to begin August 2025.
Duties/Responsibilities
The Department of Geology, Physics, and Environmental Science seeks an applicant who can teach hydrogeology as well as other courses related to the Geology and Environmental Science programs. It is expected that this faculty member will have a research agenda that leads to scholarly works that include a component of undergraduate student research. In addition to hydrogeology, teaching opportunities may include a broad range of topics, and the ability to teach subjects such as geochemistry, GIS, climate change, remote sensing, and/or other subjects in the successful candidate’s specialty area. This position includes classroom and lab teaching assignments in introductory courses for majors and non-majors. With a focus on “learning by doing,” our majors are encouraged to collaborate with faculty on research projects for elective credit. Start-up funds and other financial support, along with numerous local sites for potential field work (e.g. Hovey Lake, USI Nature Preserve, Howell Wetlands) are available to facilitate a productive research effort.
Required Knowledge and Skills
A Doctorate in Geology, Environmental Science, or closely related field is required. Doctoral candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor if the terminal degree will be completed by the end of their first year of employment. If employment starts in August 2025, terminal degree must be completed by the end of July 2026.
